WRONA GALL
Artist statement
With the ever-shifting sky as an endless source of inspiration, I create compelling colorscapes that speak to the universality of vast horizons and natural beauty.
I moved to Ojai, California after a forty-year career in painting in a commercial loft in Chicago, and was immediately charmed by the full spectrum of atmospheric blues that glow with emotional intensity. Ten years later the sky’s mutability still provides a personal source of happiness that infuses my work and inspires translucent veils of color. I stopped using brushes, and manipulate my pigments directly with my hands. I grind pigments both dry and liquid into my wooden panels to create the feathery wisps that dominate even the darkest, most stormy reflections.
Critics have referred to these glazes and stumbles as Turner-like glasses of light in color. My current work has a sensual depth that encompasses how humans interact with the sights, sounds, and sense of nature. Even my small panels evoke the majesty of cosmic visions, because my art goes beyond traditional representations of meteorological effects to introduce a strong experience of nature created in an interior environment both physical and reflective.
